Free Spacer is a tabletop roleplaying game backed by over 600 backers on a successful Kickstarter in August and September 2018. In the game, each player takes the role of a crewmember aboard a small starship. The ship is provided by a patron faction that recruits the crew to perform contracts. This patron is one of many small factions that fight the cold war in your sector.
Gameplay// Gameplay revolves around starship adventure on contract for various client factions. These adventures include exploration, trading, skirmishing, bounty hunting, infiltration, and troubleshooting.
Goal// We play to find out how the crew completes contracts. The terms they complete, choices they make, the rules they break, and the lengths they will go for their Patrons.
Theme// Through the mechanics and setting Free Spacer deals with the theme of a struggle between the freedom of space and the entanglement of the contract.
System// Designed for sci-fi, the core mechanics are streamlined and skill driven. Personal combat is as straightforward as conversation, likewise with space combat except each crewmember operates a ship station. The crunch is powered by resource systems and enabled by advanced projects that emphasis science, technology, investigation, contracts, and travel.
Setting// In Free Spacer, the setting is yours. The game provides a framework that the group builds their own Sector in the post exploration war period. The group creates a cold war sandbox with factions that pursue their own agenda in the background of play.
